My Abandoned Places series began when I was thinking about my exhibition for the Ballarat International Photo Biennale I realized I already had a number of images along this theme, beginning with the Ballarat Railway Shed.
I’m drawn to the rusty, the broken down & derelict. I wonder who worked or lived in these places, what happened here or why it’s in the current state. Maybe it’s because they seem to have their own personality and could tell a story or two. Often surrounded by vast empty spaces, yet still tentatively connected to the outside world, the images capture these lonely monuments to human endeavour and habitations. In doing so I hope to bring new life to places otherwise deserted and forgotten.
I plan to continue working on this theme with the aim of producing a hard cover book.
